It's now been two years since private.coffee is an official association in Austria. As we established our own office in 2025 this was a great way to introduce our members to our new office titled the "CoffeeLab".
Kumi started the general assembly with some general remarks and presented the agenda. We then unanimously approved last years protocol which meant we were ready to start with the Private.coffee general assembly 2026.

Jupfi presented the financial year 2025.
First, a word about the development of our memberships, which is the main funding mechanism for Private.Coffee. We saw growth throughout 2025, accelerating starting from November 2025 until now.
We saw many new-joiners as supporting members, with only one two additions of full-members in 2025. A new category "corporate membership" was added currently sitting at 2, however, this double counts for Kumi Systems, which was recently transitioned into CozyCode.
Total assets are sitting at a little under 3000€1 with the bulk being the security deposit (~1200€) for the office and volatile Monero (~1000€).
Income slightly exceeded expenses in 2025 again. Volume increased by a factor of roughly ~32. On the expense side, the two biggest expense categories were rent for the office (~3800€) and IT costs of ~6000€ in 20253. Income can be broken down into the main membership fees (~7300€) and donations (~4600€)4.
Auditor ogalbnafets reported that the audit was carried out and no objections were found. He recommended that the actions of the Board be approved.
Thomas acted as election committee.
The open discussion covered a wide range of topics, including newly added service, ideas for new projects as well as funding.
Since last year, many new services saw the light day. Kumi went through some of those to give a brief update and provide some context:

This service is currently only made available to members. In the past kumi and ogalbnafets were working on an online panoramic content management system called Quackscape. This tool can be embedded and used as an open-source and privacy respecting replacement to other common panoramic viewers, for example on real estate online marketplaces. It is already approved by Immoscout24.
We discussed various ideas for projects from a federated Google Maps alternative ("Fediloc") which would include options for reviews or more detailed information about locations (opening hours, ..). The discussion revolved around topics like how such a service could be made popular to more technical details in the implementation. Other ideas about new services included a platform for artists to share and also monetize their work.
The private.coffee coffee mugs and stickers have been well received and we are thinking about expanding to clothing. Ogalbnafets suggested some meetups where we could do some DIY screen printing for various private.coffee designs. Some of these could include seasonally themed motives like a pride theme.
Pre-Assembly ideas were brainstormed regarding a potential cooperation between Private.coffee and graz.social in form of a dual membership with more attractive prices and a joint application form.
We also would like te expand on our collaborations with small businesses, providing them with our various services (BigBlueButton, Cryptpad, ...).
The Digital Independence Day (DI.DAY) happens every first sunday of the month and encourages people to switch to digital services that are not controlled by Big Tech. We figured this would be great match for private.coffee and want to participate in future DI.DAY events to help people with switching to open-source and federated platforms. Nico volunteered to attend the DI.DAY at the Metalab in Vienna representing private.coffee there.
Additionally, we'll be attending the Grazer Linuxtage 2026 with a info desk, together with members from the Institute of Biomedical Imaging, Open Source Imaging Initiative and COHIRADIA. We will be there on the 11th of April 2026 and hope to see some of you there!
If you have any recommendations for events where you would like to see private.coffee represented, please reach out to us.
After the general assembly we had some more discussions at a nearby restaurant (Momiji Graz). We all agreed that the general assembly was lots of fun and we are looking forward to the next year.

Some members used the time after the assembly to tinker around in the CoffeeLab or play some pinball. We'd be happy to welcome even more of you next year :). As a finish for this blog post about our general assembly, here are some impressions:
